Hello and welcome back to Hammer the Backlog, the weekly mini painting, productivity and accountability blog. Through the clever use of internet time travel, I have actually been away on holiday this week. But does that mean a week of nothing to show? No! Because I used one simple trick to still get things done. Read on to find out what it was……
I finished painting the tank from last week before I left.
SCORECARD
So. Despite spending time in altogether too hot Spain, it manages to be another week in the green. Double in the green really, as I counted the tank for 10 Hammer the Backlog points.

When I’m away on tour, I love dropping into local game shops to see what’s available. As my interests have gotten more and more retro, boarding on antique now, it is highly unlikely that I just randomly come across old or midhammer treasures, and that was the case in Cadiz and Jerez this year. They have a couple of game shops that I visited with decent selections of modern stuff, but nothing retro on niche enough to really catch my eye.

Seville did have Empire Games, which is a fabulous shop with tonnes of stock of lots of games, with a large gaming area across the road, where I picked up the Battle March journal, since I have never actually seen it in a shop in Ireland first hand, and there is increasing excitement on the discord for Battle March style armies.

I have to say, I like the look of it. The typical Battle March army really looks like armies from 4th and 5th edition, which is always the aesthetic I’ve preferred.
THIS WEEK’S MODEL

So I did actually finish a model this week, the PBC.

There wasn’t much to add to him other than a few rounds of highlights, rust and verdigris, and getting the, not overwhelmingly large, organic areas painted.

I’m pretty pleased with this model, thankfully. It was one of the most “done” of the collection before I took this notion to redo everything, so I’m glad it turned out well.

HAMMER THE FRONTLOG
Without my guiding hand, Jim both knocked it out of the park and made life more difficult for himself inside a single week.

Firstly, he painted up our mini moon-surface style display board, both to take photos of his custodes and as a kind of proof of concept for the small board we want to build for our upcoming Custodes vs Death Guard battle.

He also managed to slow himself down with the bikes. After talking if over we kind of figured out that he had drifted slightly too far into over diluting the contrast paints he has been using for black and brown basecoats, giving them either a patchy or washed out look on these larger models.
But hey, that’s easily fixed, and learning is good we think.
Thanks for reading this slightly truncated update brought to you be me hiding from the sun. See you next week for return to full normal service.
Los mejores huevos!
