What could have possibly attracted 16-year-old Mick to the army which featured the busty goth dominatrixes in their latex rubberised battle underpants? Well, the only way to find out is to read on!
SCORECARD
I’ll be honest, it was probably the boobies. Now that that great spoiler is out of the way, another week fully in the green. Thursday somewhat snuck up on me this week, so I did do about half of the week’s painting today, to be honest. These models felt like another one of those sets that felt like they were going to be difficult, then turned out to be easier than I expected. And THEN turned out to actually be full of details and harder than expected.
They also ended up being one of those sets that I really feel I could have done more on, a few more highlights, a little bit more individual attention. But then, of course, the whole point (or one of the major points at least) of Hammer the Backlog is to force me to get a move on, and know when to call things done.
To quote Shane “It doesn’t have to be done, it just has to be perfect”. No, wait. The opposite of that.
Very few models are left for the Dark Eldar quarter now. Just 2 more Wyches, the 2 crew of the raider, Drazzar and the raider itself. I am most excited about the raider, but I do seem to be putting it off a lot. Mostly because I’m not sure how to strip the old, caked on enamel paints off of something that I can’t just dunk into the pot of biostrip.
Oh, and the Youtube money came in this week, making this the first time that the Hammer the Backlog Profit and Loss sheet has ever been in the profit category!

THIS WEEK’S MODELS
This week’s models are the first five of my batch of 7 wyches.
I had made a few attempts to paint these in the past, but this attempt is by far the closest to the idea I had in my head. Also the closest to the original designers intention, as it turned out!
Not super much to report on these, funnily enough. All of the colours and paint schemes have already been established in the rest of the army.
I love how basically “attractive” the female models are. Busty, underdressed, big eyes, defined lips, good proportions. Almost like they were aimed at teenage boys in the 90s.
Then they went “I guess we should have some male Wyches too. Should they be lithe and dangerous? Alluring and attractive, just like the female models?” And then James Workshop said “Yes! Or course. Hideous little gobliny freaks would also be fine.”
This isn’t quite the original box set. I realised the original set contained the succubus, the wyche with shredder and three normal wyches. That means that the wyche with shardnet and impaler and the wych with hydraknives were from a blister pack. I don’t have a wych with the razorsnare, it seems.
HAMMER THE FRONTLOG
Before we talk about Jim’s progress this week, I feel it is very important to point out that he is a secondary school teacher and has the entire summer off work. So ignore that he is currently putting me to shame, and I am supposed to be the professional* (please see P&L sheet)
Anyway, the speedy lunatic finished his unit of wardens and a blade….. Guy. Blade champion? Blade master?
He is already most of the way through the Allarus terminators from the combat patrol.
We are thinking the next thing we need to do, when his combat patrol is finished, is to make a very small urban ruined battlefield / photography set up / display board. I’ve never do that before, should be fun!
