Quarter 2 Week 4 Update: Progress or Decay

Hello and welcome back to Hammer the Backlog, the weekly mini painting, productivity and accountability blog. We’ve hit one of the bigger milestones in the quarter 2 goals this week, as well as accidentally hitting another. Join me for a weekly dive into scorecards, targets and painted models.

Ignore the actual red in the actual ledger, everything is green this week. I’m sure we’ll get that bug fixed eventually. Some day.

Three Plague Marines painted this week, clocking in a 6 HtB points, and evening out the progress for the quarter so far. That’s my first full unit of 10 Plague Marines done, and one of the two major “chunks” of the army done for the quarter. The next major “chunk” will be the twenty Pox Walkers, which should take another month, and then the final month for vehicles and characters.

The kind of fun, and accidental milestone I hit this week is that, thanks for following along with conquest magazine, and some of the Blackstone Fortress models I painted a few years back, I do actually now have a “fully painted” (although nowhere near a standard I am happy with) thousand point Death Guard Army.

Snazzy. Next step is to whip Jim’s custodes as I get the rest painted up to the same standard, and then work on a more fitting table for them to fight across.

Technically, the final two Plague Marines and the last Extra Plague Marine this week. This makes the fourth version of this easy to build Plague Marine with bolter that I’ve built. It makes sense that he’s popping up everywhere, since he is the only one of the easy to build models that represents a standard trooper with a boltgun, rather than a special weapon or unit champion. The only real difference between this one and the last one is that I went with paler purplish flesh for this week’s models.

The other two models are the two alternate pose models from the Dark Imperium boxed set. One guy with a bold gun and cool curved antlers, and the other well on his way to mono-eyed demonhood with a plasma gun.

Looking at the pallet I’d settled on, orange was the only colour that made sense to me for the plasma guns energy coils. I suppose Turquoise was also there on the palette as an option, but I’m pretty happy with how the orange turned out.

I really got into a rhythm with this scheme, it is super fast and effective to do, and one of the only schemes I’ve ever done that benefits from making mistakes.

I also really enjoyed that all three models this week have decently large areas of purple to paint, as I think it’s my favourite part of painting up these models this quarter.

I’m not entirely sure if it’s going to make sense when I try to continue this scheme across to the pox walkers, but I’m excited to give it a try.

Not much progress to report from Jim again this week, as he procrastinates around his new codex coming out and finishing his tank.

He was, however, introduced to the joys and challenges of decals.

Best eggs, see you next week for some poxwalkers (probably).
