Great minds think alike? Or do fools seldom differ? Anyway, welcome back to Hammer the Backlog, the weekly mini painting, productivity and accountability blog. It’s been an exceptionally busy week at Hammer the Backlog Central (my house). I know I say that every couple of weeks, and then do a big reveal that everything is still in the green, but will it be like that this week? Only one way to find out.
SCORECARD

Damn, a little bit of red creeped into the green this week. Actually, now that I look at it, the scorecard with its reds, greens and whites looks just like the Dragon Princes scheme I’ve been painting. What a neat coincidence.
So how did that red happen? Well, a very busy work week, with two days on the road 8am to 8pm, for one thing. Then I also had a small medical procedure for my dicky tummy (medical term) that involved fentanyl and forgetting most of the day. So really only four painting days this week.
With all that I mind I am actually quite pleased with how much I managed to do. These dragon prince models are incredibly fiddly and detailed, so even counting the musician for “only” three points feels a bit like I am doing myself out of some points to be honest.

Nothing else really to report this week, I didn’t even have a chance to finish off the tiny scenery project I started last week.
THIS WEEK’S MODEL

The armour of my Dragon Princes and their steeds’ barding feature a dynamic green and red colour scheme. However, the white horses, pennants and shield designs make the regiment fit in with the rest of my High Elf army. Here, let me prove it.

I enjoyed painting this guy a good bit more than last week’s champion, and I think he has turned out a little better too. I think the darker green for the horse works better than the red, but the whole idea of this unit seems to be an almost (ALMOST) random allocation of bright red, dark red, bright green and dark green.

One of the most fun things about this project is that a fellow High Elf painter, Paul Andrew Brown, over on the Warhammer Armies High Elves page, is painting the same models in the same style at the same pace. It’s fun to pick uup these accident painting allies to motivate you when you are painting tricky projects. Paul is going even closer to the original scheme than I am, and I’m a bit jealous of his dark lances and red blades. Hop on over and give him some support.

I think next week I’m going to bite down on the bit and tackle the standard bearer. He’ll be a big enough project, but we have a back holiday Monday to help. And I’ll definitely get the terrain project finished!

Well lookit, hopefully a slightly longer blog next week too, I have a lot I’d love to say about AI, inspiration and human nature in the mini painting hobby, but I am bone shatteringly tired!
Best eggs!
