Quarter 2 Week 9 Update: Rhythm is Going to Get You

Hi there! It’s Hammer the Backlog time! Another Thursday evening, another 5 points worth of models finished. Hammer the Backlog is the weekly mini painting, productivity and accountability blog. Some weeks, I don’t have that much to say. But even in those weeks, there will be a blog. This is one of those weeks!

Another week fully in the green. I had a couple of very long days in work this week, meaning Monday and Tuesday evening were less free for painting than usual, but I actually managed to get engaged with the orks this week and put a good amount of time and effort in at the weekend, meaning that by Thursday I was at about the same spot as usual.

Why did I manage to engage with the orks better this week? Not sure to be honest. Motivation can be like that. Perhaps it was that they are the last batch of this project? Or maybe the fact that I added a Nob and a heavy weapon gave it a little variety? Or maybe I’m just better at painting orks now so it flowed easier?

Anyway, next week is week ten of quarter 2, and there is only the last remaining Deff Kopta to paint. I’m looking forward to knocking it out and then getting the entire Assault on Black Reach project done and dusted.

After that it will be on to three whole weeks of side projects! The excitement! One of the weeks will probably be more focussed on getting the quarterly review video filmed and edited, leaving two weeks for projects.

Life is a rollercoaster, sometimes. Often when I’m doing a quarter that is a little less interesting for me, the last few models in the pipeline feel like a bit of a slog and I have to force myself to do more than the bare minimum. I’m looking at you, Chaos Cultists. And genestealer cultists. And Dark Angels.

But for some reason, this batch of 5 orks might actually be my favourite of this quarter, rather than the struggle that previous weeks have been. I think it’s just that I got a rhythm down so it was completely stress and confusion free.

Maybe adding the nob gave them a bit more character and presence than the previous batches? Who knows.

I’m uncommonly happy with the skull on this guy’s top knot!

That’s it for the footsloggers now. They can take to the field as two units of 10, or a big unit of 20 with a nob and two big shootahs. I think.

I don’t often have reason to be in the mid west of Ireland during the week, but this week work happened to take me to Achill. And since I was already in the area, I thought, why not make the most of the trip and pop in for a little look around Broadsword Wargaming in Castlebar. Regular readers will know I love visiting an independent wargaming shop while I’m out and about.

In classic Hammer the Backlog fashion, it was closed! It appears that I am cursed. No fault at all of the lovely owners, the website clearly says closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Next time!

In the meantime, thanks for reading all of this. See you next week for the last ork!

  1. They look great! I feel like this quarter is really proving the power of the method (or your willpower).
