Sibilant greetings to you, fellow cold bloods. Welcome back to Hammer the Backlog, the weekly mini painting, productivity and accountability blog where you get to watch me paint my huge hoard of retro and modern tabletop miniatures, all the while stressing myself out about hitting self-imposed deadlines and targets! But sure look, it seems to be working!
The end of quarter one of year three is rapidly approaching, and while painting targets are well on track and going great, I might have taken my eye off the ball a little on the meta targets. Let’s take a look together at the scorecard, the week’s models and any other issues affecting the project.
SCORECARD
A fine week in the green this week, in terms of scorecard metrics, the amount of green paint on the models, and the amount of green paint on my hands. With 3 Kroxigors (hopefully) finished and photographed by the time you read this. That gives 6 Hammer the Backlog points of finished models. Nice.
I also had a few spare minutes this week to clear off my painting / photography station and take some photos of my 99% finished Dogs or War army, so that got posted all over the internet! It’s been, so far, the third most popular thing I’ve posted on the internet. Seems to really hit that nostalgic sweet spot.
Here’s the photo!

I’m very very happy with how the Dogs or War project has turned out. Only the poor, battered, broken and lost banner bearer is holding it back from 100% complete. Speaking of:
I managed to tick off one of the long standing to-dos on the list by finally ordering some correctly sized brass rod from Eire hobbies! Great bunch of lads, it’ll probably be here tomorrow.
The big bit of red in the ledge this week is the progress on the meta rock of getting the Dark Vengeance intro game played and filmed. Sadly, I have never been less motivated to get something done! Dark Vengeance, while a really cool boxed set with nice models, just doesn’t hit the nostalgia sweet spot for me.
This might be one of the very few rocks that end up getting killed, for my own sanity more than anything! I haven’t even read through the full Getting Started booklet that I got from eBay a few months ago, nor have I even started on my plan to beg borrow or steal a 48 by 48 industrial or spaceship board.
THIS WEEK’S MODELS

This week’s models were three of the mid nineties, 5th edition Lizardmen Kroxigors that my lovely lady wife got me for my birthday last year. I have 6 of these fellas in total. The plan is to paint four of them up in this relatively dark scheme as a unit of four, to paint one up in a lighter scheme who will join a unit of skinks, and then to have one spare to do something fun with in the future. Who knows what?

I always thought that Korxigors, Rat Ogres, Trolls and Ogres were more or less the same size and bulk, but these babies are massive compared to Golgfag’s Ogres. They are to an ogre as a saurus is to a man, plus 30% taller and heavier!
I went for the exact same scheme on these that I used on my dark skinned Saurus warriors in year one. I have never been more grateful for blogging, otherwise trying to remember the recipes for the skin colours would have caused painting paralysis.

A quick question for the more 5th edition savvy of you out there. Is it possible to have a unit of four Kroxigors and a single Kroxigor in a unit of skinks in the same army? The book, as I’m reading it, seems to imply that all of the Kroxigors in your army have to be together in the same unit?
One more of these to go next week, and one lighter one to go in the light skinned skink unit.

I’m looking forward to it already!
I GOT SENT FREE STUFF
No one is more surprised than me at how popular the backlog project has been, even now to the point that companies are sending me free things to review!

I have been playing around with BenQ Ideacam this week, looking to learn the software to get some incredibly close up detail on some of my models! So far seems like a very solidly made and packaged product, excited to give it a try!
Well, that’s all from my slimy lizard brain for another week. Catch you next week for more lizards!
Best Eggs!
