Well hello there! Another week of Warhammer mini painting, accountability and productivity from Hammer the Backlog. After a dip of a low couple of weeks, last week was a real high point. And this week I managed to maintain that positive vibe and made some decent progress. Nice. Let’s take a look at this week’s scorecard, then have a look at the model.
SCORECARD

Another green week! Nice! After a couple of months of persistent reds, it is nice to get a couple of green weeks in a row. Although I only painted one model this week, the Chaos Helbrute from Dark Vengeance, I put the full 5 points of Hammer the Backlog effort into it, including getting up at 5:30 this morning to add a few touches.
He is a heck of a chonker, and there is no way I would have been able to do him in a single week, but luckily I actually started him a few years ago when I first got this box. So there is the added satisfaction of having finished another abandoned project.
Once again, the big lagger this week is the Blood Bowl project. I did manage to trap Jim this week and convince him that we need to get it done, so there is still a chance!
THIS WEEK’S MODEL
So this week’s model is the centrepiece of the Dark Vengeance, the Helbrute. As I said before, I started him a few years ago, giving me a big help this week. I painted his skin and the gold trim on his armour, tow of the biggest areas. I definitely didn’t paint them to the same standard I would like, but they were a great base coat to not have to worry about starting from scratch.

I did repaint the black armour from scratch to match it to the new way I am painting Chaos Marines. So every black armour panel got two coats of mechanicus standard grey, then highlighted with Thunderhawk Blue and Fenrisian Grey.

Some of the fleshy appendages got restarted two, with a base coat of wraithbone and then a mix of Volupus Pink and Fyreslayer Flesh.
Painting the eyes dotted around his armour in the Black Legion / Eye of Horus / Eye of Sauron style ties him in with the rest of the models a little, but his flesh and trim are definitely a different tone to the rest.

I kinda like how ragtag these guys are. The marines have very blue armour and very pale gold trim. The cultists have much darker black and redder trim. The hellbrute has the blue armour and the redder trim. This wasn’t really “planned” as such, but I think that this side of the box benefits from being a little ragtag, unified by their bases. The marines of next quarter are going to be much more unified by comparison.
ON THE REDDIT
So after complaining for a couple of weeks that no one cared about my 40k stuff compared to my classic Warhammer Fantasy stuff, I finally bit the bullet and uploaded some of my cultists and marines to reddit. Would you believe it, they turned out to be easily the most popular thing I’ve ever posted on Reddit!

One of the funniest things about posting on Reddit is how mean people can accidentally be. Sometimes people get so into the conversations they are having in the sub thread, they probably forget that the person who posted the picture is more than likely the one who painted it!
They are talking about this picture:

Thanks UltimateUltimate!
Well that’s it from me for another week. See you this time next week for two more Chaos Space Marines!
Good eggs!
