Welcome back to the final week of quarter 3 of year 4 of Hammer the Backlog, the weekly mini painting, accountability and productivity blog. It’s been a heck of a week of video making, and there has been a probably unneeded trip to the hospital (I’m fine!), so read on for the weekly scorecard, project updates and to see if I actually managed to get any models painted this week. (I didn’t)
SCORECARD

Alrighty then, a bit of red in the ledger this week. So! Let me explain! First of all, there were no actual target models to paint, as I got the last of the current batch of empire models done this week. Then! Jim and I spent pretty much all day Saturday filming two videos for the Assault on Black Reach starter set. Then! I got a really bad pain in my stomach, went to the doctor. As I am a middle aged man, the doctor sent me to the hospital to make sure I wasn’t having a heart attack. I wasn’t. The ED doctor called me a brave little soldier and sent me home. But that did take 14 hours, so….. Things were disrupted. Then! I had to go back to the studio to film the Quarter 3 Review and Quarter 4 planning video! Then I had to edit the Assault on Black Reach learn-to-play!
Look, it’s probably for the best that the “models painted” number can’t go into the negative, because if it happened any week it would have been this week!
As it’s the last week of Quarter 3, let’s do this formally.
One tray of Fantasy Empire painted, photographed and online

This quarterly rock has been well and truely achieved. It was a nice one, to be frank. Te five knights were great fun to paint with some oil paint techniques. The Warrior Priest didn’t need to be stripped, saving me a couple of evenings. The two different units of swordsmen were fun projects that required quite a bit of freehanding.

But my highlight for this quarter was definitely the Fireloques of Ferlangen. Of all the units I painted this quarter, I think they were the most coherent conversions, and the colour scheme really came out the way I wanted. Even the lozenges and stripes turned out pretty much as I imagined them. They really feel to me like the piece of official artwork come to life.
Assault on Black Reach Battle Report Played, Filmed, Edited and Uploaded
The scope of this one crept a little bit, I think. Since the AoBR set has a learn the rules section, and a “Your First Full Game” section, I decided it would be better to pretty much copy the format I did for my 5th edition fantasy set a few years back. In other words, to make two videos, one with an introduction to the game and the learn to play section, with individual dice rolls, explanations of the rules etc. And then, just like the Wrath of Txlatlan Battle Report a full, albeit small, battle report.
I’m happy to report the the first video should be online roughly around the time you are reading this, and the battle report is scheduled to go live in two weeks!
Please consider giving the video a view and a like. Those early watches are key for convincing YouTube to show it to a wider audience.
QUARTER 3 REVIEW
As per tradition and protocol, please enjoy this gallery of the models that I painted this quarter!

See you next week for the first of the High Elves, the reveal of the new quarterly targets and the next Quarterly Planning video!
Best of eggs!
