Hello and welcome back to year 4 of Hammer the Backlog, the weekly mini painting, productivity and accountability blog. Lookit, it’s mostly Warhammer. More than 90% I’d say. And in quarter 3 of year 5 it’s even more specific, a Warhammer Fantasy Battles army 100% based on the Dave Gallagher art from the seminal (in both senses of the word) Uniforms and Heraldry of the Empire book.
SCORECARD

We start this week as we always do with a look at the weekly scorecard, the method of tracking progress with the project. A full week in the green means that all of the day to day and week to week stuff in on track.
Two fairly complex knights painted, at 3 Hammer the Backlog points each gives six points of models painted. No hold ups due to missing supplies, and all social media targets hit.
The one worry of the week is that the meta target of Getting an Assault on Black Reach game played, filmed, edited and uploaded is now a little off track, since we have made a grand total of zero progress on it. Best get on that! In fact, let me just stop typing this and shoot Jim a message now.
THIS WEEK’S MODELS

Two more knights in white satin this week. Although I did give one white satin and the other red satin for a bit of variety.

As the last two of this block of five Reiksguard, not much to report on the models themselves, other than, as I just mentioned, slightly different colour undies from the rest of the unit. And slightly darker horses. Were the darker horses for the sake of realism and variety, or did I just use the wrong colour? I guess we’ll never know.

The piece of work this week was on this banner. Again I took it directly from the uniforms and heraldry book.

But sadly this sculpted banner, by bending around the flag pole a couple of times, made that pretty hard to keep track of.

I still don’t love freehand banner painting, but I take back anything I ever complained about when painting them on nice flat, clear surfaces. This was a bit of a challenge, and as always, I’m not completely happy with it.

But a big part of the Hammer the Backlog system is the fact it stops me from getting bogged down in details like this, so onward and upwards.

The entire small force is nearly equivalent now to the 6th edition starter set, once I add a leader and a cannon. Maybe the canon is next week?
We’ll it’s either that or the marksmen?
GAMES!
A bit of a hiccup this week, as I have been invited to a game of 5th edition with 1500 points of my Bretonnians against a lovely army of orcs and goblins. The only problem? I’m not sure I have 1500 points painted?
I do have another grail knight in the pile who would very happily represent a hero or banner bearer, as well as a small unit of 9 squires. But can I get them painted before the end of the month, and still get the empire army done?
I suppose the first step is to get the army list written and see where we are!
See you next week!
Best of eggs!
