Quarter 1 Week 2 Update: There is no such thing as innocence, only degrees of guilt.

Ssssshhhhh…. No talking in the library. Welcome back to Hammer the Backlog, the weekly mini painting, productivity and accountability blog. We are only two weeks into a brand new year and new project, and enthusiasm and interest is at an all time high on my end. But will that enthusiasm be enough to carry through to a successful week of backlog hammering? Only one way to find out, by continuing to read on! Or I could just tell you. But where’s the fun in that?

Ok, so there’s a little red in this week’s scorecard. BUT, it’s for two very good reasons. Firstly, and predictably, as with every week of quarter one of a new year, I have very few models painted to show off on social media.

The second reason to have a little red was very exciting, but currently, still secret! But it could be big news for getting the year’s meta target across the line. Still in the fingers crossed stage, but things are looking very promising.

Not much else to report this week. High as I was on new project excitement I got this week’s model painted slightly ahead of schedule for a change, and as I’m typing this I am already well into next week’s models. New year, new you indeed.

This week’s model is the 2007 Space Marine Librarian in Power Armour with Force Axe. Strictly speaking, this model doesn’t represent Blood Ravens Librarian and all-round fairly suss egg Isador Akios, but he might as well.

Let’s call him Isn’tador Akios for the sake of consistency.

Once again I’ve gone off the strict codex astartes route of pure blue armour for Librarians and gone for a scheme more or less straight out of the game, blue armour, gold chest and, for some reason, chapter coloured backpack.

I was thankful to get to paint the backpack so that I didn’t forget the red recipe before I really jump in with the Blood Ravens colour scheme on some line troopers.

I’m not convinced this model is a genuine GW model. It’s a little bit rougher in some areas that other models I have from this time period. I wonder if it is a decent recast.

I couldn’t find a lot of information about this model either, sadly. Most of my more “classic” stuff, it’s pretty easy to put your finger on just who sculpted it, but it was very hard with this guy. There are certain aspects to him, like his pose, movement and height, that are telling me it is my favourite 2000s era GW sculptor Juan Diaz, but I can’t be sure. I could just ask him, I guess. The internet is a weird place. Imagine we live in a world where I could just ask him.

He really is a very tall boy, half a head taller than the rest of the marines and nearly a full head taller than the captain, who actually might just be a short king.

It was a massive couple of week’s on Youtube for Hammer the Backlog. This year review and planning videos got more views and watch time between them than nearly everything I’ve put on line before them, including a huge number of returning viewers. That means people are actually like, share, subscribing and looking forward to the update videos.

Utterly wild. I also think the videos have been helped by the algorithm recommending me to Bill Burr fans.

Well, that’s it from me for another week. See you next week for another batch of Space Marine short kings.

Best of eggs.
