Hello and welcome back to Hammer the Backlog, the weekly Warhammer mini painting, productivity and accountability blog. Last week I finished painting Deathwatch Overkill, the 2016 boardgame and the last painting target of the year. That left me two weeks still to go in the year, with no targets to hit. I originally scheduled a little holiday and a small nervous breakdown for that period. Is that what happened? Only one way to find out!
SCORECARD

Ok, business as usual, except for that slightly glaring red column in models finished. In my defense, your honour, this week was originally scheduled for a little break, so getting no models finished is far from a disaster.

In fact, even though it was a scheduled break week, it was a very busy week for the Hammer the Backlog project. With the end of year 3 video now filmed and about half edited and the year four planning video in the can (than means filmed, for people not in the industry), I spend most of the week thinking about models, if not actually painting them.

One of the pains of the studio where I film my quarterlies being quite far from my house is transporting delicate models in the car, and there were three casualties this year. They are all fixed up now, but that damned Slann Mage Priest always feels like it is a stiff breeze away from just exploding.
With a week to go in the quarter and no painting COMMITMENTS, things are feeling pretty chill. However, just because there are no painting commitments doesn’t mean I’m not painting.
THIS (AND NEXT) WEEK’S MODELS
So, with two weeks to myself to work on random bits on bobs I had quite a few to choose from. Free as I am from the bindings of quarterly targets I like to fall back on a couple of guidelines (but not hard and fast rules)
- Paint something that will never be part of a rock
- Paint stuff from the top of the pile first
- Gifts skip the queue
- Just have fun with it
- ……
- Profit?

So the first two models are a pair of top of the queue boys. I bought two sets of squire command groups to be command groups for my Bretonnain archers for the Tlaxtlan battle reports, but the champion models weren’t required for the battles. Since I have them, they are top of the pile and they are awesome models, I’m going to put a bit of paint on them over the next week.

The next two models were sent to by my pewter pusher Emiel from Thanqual’s lair. Emiel did me a real solid by sending me a missing pavice all the way back in quarter one, and since he likes to cause a bit of chaos, threw in a couple of 2nd Edition 40k Chaos Space Marines. These boys will be very happily joining my squad of 2nd edition Iron Warriors, adding a banner and special weapon and taking them up to seven strong.

Emiel is currently struggling with the curse of modern plastic models. Go give him some support.

The last model may look at first glance like a classic fifth edition Bretonnian knight on foot from the 90s, but he is actually a brand new, completely original sculpt from Alessio Cisbani, aka Wolfbaneart.
I will 100% be painting him up in the style of my 90s Brets, if just slightly more dead.
Well, that’s it from me this week. I have plenty of video editing and more than a smattering of painting left to get on with. Thanks for reading this all, despite the obvious lack of painted minis this week.
It must be because you are the best of eggs?
