Hello and welcome back to a pretty big day for Hammer the Backlog, the weekly Warhammer mini painting, productivity and accountability blog? What makes it a big day, ask? Well, why don’t you read on and find out?
SCORECARD

Another week in the green this week, after a particularly steady quarter, if I do say so myself. With the last two Genestealer Cults Models done to a standard I am happy with, that is all of the painting targets for Quarter 4 achieved.

More than that, that is all of the painting targets for Year 3 achieved, and with 2 weeks spare to boot! I’m not going to get ahead of myself here and start doing a year end review, what with the luxury of two weeks left to play with.
THE ISSUES LIST
With the end of year 3 rapidly approaching it is a time of change. And no bigger change is coming than the fact that after 3 years of (pretty) reliable service, my free project management website, Instant Agency Tools, has announced that the are ending service, at more or less the same time as year 3 wraps up.

At the moment I don’t have a plan for a replacement, I might have to just make myself a google sheet with the same functionality, although it won’t look as professional graphically.
Still, no better time than a new year approaching to start looking for a new piece of operating software.
RIP Instant Agency Tools, you will be missed. A bit.
THIS WEEK’S MODELS

This week’s models are the middle management of the Genestealer Cults, Tim from HR, aka the Primus and Karen from Accounts, aka the Magus.

Of the two I enjoyed painting the Magus a lot more. His flowing red robes were both super easy to paint and gave a really nice rich red look thanks to the lovely deeps folds and flow to the sculpting. I know I usually prefer older, hand sculpted models, but these robes were a joy to paint and only took a couple of minutes.

His head framed by the big dumb thing is also a very eye catching touch. I was tempted to go for purple robes, but I’ve skewed pretty close to the box art for most of the Deathwatch Overkill set, so why change on the last model?
The primus was a little bit less exciting, since I’ve painted a lot of models over the last couple of years that basically boil down to a fun little guy with a gun in a black leather trench coat with a red lining. He is basically a slightly more detailed generation 4 hybrid. Fun, but not super memorable compared to his regal counterpart.

With the two middle managers done, that is the entire Genestealer Cult done, and therefore the entirety of Deathwatch Overkill painted up. Another boxed set ticked off the hammer the backlog list.
With two weeks left to play with, I’m hoping to get a little time to take some cool, atmospheric photos with these guys to round off the year.
WHAT’S LEFT?
Well, even though I have ticked off all of the targets for the year, there is still a big heap of work to do. As with every end of year, I have two pretty long form videos to make, the Year 3 review and the Year 4 planning session. I’m planning to have them done and dusted by June 12th, which gives me two weeks to prep models, get them all into the studio, film and edit the results.
Since that will take a lot of time, there will probably be slightly less time and motivation for painting. So it’s Bits and Bobs time again. Those rare times in the year where I don’t have painting commitments to adhere to, so I can spend a couple of weeks painting something random for fun. And I don’t even have to finish them. I’m thinking of putting 5 models on the desk and puttering around between them for the two weeks.
If I get them finished, great. If I don’t, no harm done.
Well, thanks for reading all of this, see you next week.
