Hello and welcome back to Hammer the Backlog, the weekly mini painting, accountability and productivity blog, where sometimes things go wrong. It’s been one of those weeks, gang. You know the ones. Despite taking a whole assed day off of work, things still got away from me a little bit. Look, it happens to the best of us!
Now, enough negativity, let’s take a look at what I actually did manage to get done this week.
SCORECARD

Clearly, personal life got a little bit in the way of getting models painted this week. I won’t get into what was going on, some good, some less good, but suffice it to say by the time my day off rolled around on Wednesday I had made zero progress on the week’s models. A very unusual situation indeed since the start of the Hammer the Backlog project.

So, with a full day off I decided to try to power through all of the remaining carapaced models, 2 genestealers and 2 familiars, in a single day.

I made it through about 8 hours of painting, getting the two genestealers done before I had to abandon ship on the familiars.

The familiars got to about 60% done, but then again they are tiny!
Genestealers seem to be some sort of curse for me. The last time I painted genestealers was 10 or more years ago, doing the entire collection from Space Hulk, 24 models, as a single big batch. They were not painted to the best of my ability, and the magnitude of the task resulted in me not picking up a paintbrush again for about 4 years afterwards.

So, a tiny bit off track, since I didn’t get many models finished this week and I messed up the target for the week anyway! Still, 7 models to go and 5 weeks to do them, so nothing to worry about currently. I should be able to get the familiars and the 3 remaining hybrids down next week, and then both characters the week after, leaving me two weeks to paint up some random bits and bobs while I focus on the end year videos.
THIS WEEK’S MODELS

The only two normal genestealers in the genestealer cults box are done and dusted. These are a lovely pair of models, with just the right amount of detail in my opinion.

After painting the hybrids with literally 100 stages, it was nice to paint only skin, carapace and claws. Not clothing or other bits to worry about.

I painted them exactly the same way as I did the big one a few weeks back, if maybe to a slightly lower standard due to the time pressure.

Still, they are a good bit nicer than the space hulk set with much nice highlights and better contrast. Would you really notice using them as playing pieces? No, probably not.

I’m looking forward to getting this set done and playing a game of Deathwatch Overkill!
WE’RE DOING OUR PART
In great news, the model that I donated to the Miniatures for Mental Health (Krontharg Hornhelm, who knew?) sold pretty quickly this week, resulting in €55 going to Mind. If it was one of the regular blog readers who bought it, well, you already knew you were the best of eggs, but thank you very much!

Saved me from having to buy him back myself to save face! There are still a few models available at https://merlinsminiatures.co.uk/pages/miniatures-for-mental-health
Looks, that’s enough out of me for one week, catch you next week for getting back on track.
As previously mentioned, you are the best eggs!
