Welcome back to Hammer the Backlog, the weekly warhammer mini painting, accountability and productivity blog in which I, Mick, attempt to paint 30 years of accumulated tabletop gaming models by adhering strictly to a project management “operating system”. Don’t worry if you couldn’t read this week’s title correctly, that’s what it’s supposed to look like, as instead of painting this week I was off on honeymoon in Korea with my lovely lady wife.
But let’s not let something as small as a honeymoon get in the way of the important business of blogging about toy soldiers. Let’s start this week, as with every other, with a look at the scorecard.
SCORECARD
Instant Agency Tools is still on the flippin’ fritz, so another week of hand drawn tables. Should I start a petition.org for them to fix it?

The only obvious red in the ledger this week, and it’s a big one, is zero models painted. Bringing my little mobile painting station on the 17 hour trip from Ireland to Seoul might have actually made the flight more bearable, but dragging paints around for a week in 30 degree heat might have killed them (and me). Therefore, no models painted this week.
But no worries. As I mentioned at the start of the quarter, I had factored this time into the target setting this quarter, so everything remains on track.
HAMMER THE BACKLOG ON TOUR
I make it a bit of a habit to drop in to local game shops, or warhammer shops if local versions aren’t available, any time I go abroad. Korea, however, is definitely the place I’ve been with the worst penetration of Warhammer into both the market and the public consciousness. Just an hour across the sea in Japan there is a decent tabletop gaming scene, but here there seems to be only one store, Orc Town in Seoul.

So onto the subway I went, dragging my wife to a local game shop, as is customary.

It turned out to be only one subway stop away from where we were staying.

Sadly, it also turned out to be closed, with only the pick-up for online orders being open.
Look, the chances of them having something that interests my retro obsessed head was pretty slim anyway!
CRY HAVOK
Last week, Frederick (Hammer the Backlog’s only regular Facebook reader!) asked me how many points of Dogs of War I had now. This got me thinking, I hadn’t a clue. So I dragged out my original Dogs of War army book and tallied them up. Below is what I think is an accurate army list for all of my Dogs of War models and a little gallery of them too.
| Models/Unit | Notes | Points Value |
| GENERAL Barded Warhorse Sword, heavy armour, shield | 121 | |
| GOLGFAG’S MERCENARY OGRES GOLGFAG SKAFF 3 OGRES 2 hand weapons, heavy armour | Cause Fear | 500 |
| BRAZANGA’S BESIEGERS LUKA BRAZANGA 5 BESIEGERS Sword, crossbow, heavy armour, pavise Standard bearer and musician | 164 | |
| PIZARRO’S LOST LEGION PIZARRO Heavy armour and sword 11 PIKES Sword, pike, heavy armour4Standard bearer and musician | 166 | |
| ASARNIL AND DEATHFANG ASARNIL Heavy armour and shield, sword and lance | Amulet of Dragonheart – enemy WS -1 Dragontamer Dragonrage | 750 |
| LEOPOLD’S LEOPARD COMPANY LEOPOLDO DI LUCCI Heavy armour and pike 11 PIKEMEN Heavy armour and pike Standard bearer and musician | 200 | |
| BRONZINO’S BATTERY OF GALLOPER GUNS BRONZINO Sword, heavy armour, warhorse 1 GUN 3 CREW Sword, light armour | 169 | |
| VESPERO’S VENDETTA VESPERO 4 DUELLISTS Two hand weapons | Skirmish Cloak counts as a shield in hand to hand combat | 115 |
| THE BIRDMEN OF CATRAZZA DADDALLO 4 BIRDMEN 2 hand weapons and crossbows | Skirmish Fly | 170 |
| LUMPIN CROOP’S FIGHTING COCKS LUMPIN CROOP NED HAMFIST 8 HALFLINGS Sword, bow, light armour, shield | 150 | |
| TOTAL | 2505 |
2500 points is a nice little force, but let’s be honest here, it is skewed pretty heavily by the 750 points of Asarnal on Deathfang and the 500 points of Golgfag’s Mercenary Ogres, making up half of the list between just two units. I’ve no idea, therefore, how much fun it would be to play, or to play against.

The models which I nearly forgot about were Lumpin Croop’s Fighting Cocks, as they weren’t in the original army book. So I had to drag out my copy of White Dwarf 230, the second ever White Dwarf I bought.
NOSTALGIA OVERLOAD

And what an issue it is! The cover, with this incredible piece of Wayne England Chaos Terminator art! A full set of rules for Lumpin Croop’s Fighting Cocks. The release of the plastic Clanrat set, and loads of info about Skaven. The release of Necron Immortals and a brand new Necron Army list to play. Chaos Space Marine Obliterators and Raptors! A gorgeous Black Legion vs White Scar battle report! I really think it was this era of White Dwarf that got me hooked on games workshop back then. I used to read these things multiple times, cover to cover, and drive my parents mad with trips to the supermarket when the next one was due.
Anyway, that’s enough out of me for one week.
See you next week for more ramblings!
You are the best eggs.
