Quarter 3 Week 11 Update: I Can’t Count?

Well hello there! Welcome back to Hammer the Backlog. This is a weekly Warhammer mini painting, productivity and accountability blog. I’ve been sweating this week as I miscounted the number of weeks in a quarter way back at the start of this process and had to make some sort of decision, which I have been going back and forward on all week. Let’s look at the scorecard, then this week’s models.

So another week fully in the green, despite the slight surge of panic that rose in my throat when I saw that next Thursday was the end of the quarter. I counted my two completed Chaos Space marine Chosen as 3 points each. They really are very detailed sculpts with lots of gribbles and that classic Chaos Space Marine trim to paint.

So what was the panic then, since I got this week’s models painted? Well, not only did I get this week’s models painted, I also got the Chosen Champion to about the half-way point. Sounds great? The panic was that I saw that I had set the end date of the quarter for March 14th, giving me only 12 weeks in the quarter. I thought I had given myself that standard 13 weeks, but no! So I had to decide what to do, either stick with the deadline of the 14th and have a twelve week quarter, or move the end date to the 21st and have the standard 13 week quarter.

Originally I decided “Just do it” and that I would paint the remaining 2 Chosen, finish the Chosen champion and paint the Chaos Lord in one week. A lot of work for sure. I would also need to play the Blood Bowl game and film the match report at the same time. I can feel the panic rising.

Anyway, rather than giving myself an ulcer, I decided to fix the original mistake and move the end date to the 21st of March. Phew! What an emotional rollercoaster.

Two more trim covered, spiky, detailed, frayed pipe covered Chosen Chaos Space Marines off the pile of shame list this week! The first of the two models of this week is the “standard” chaos space marine, the exact same model as last week’s. In the paint scheme I’ve chosen, there isn’t a large variety of ways to distinguish them while still making them both “Black Legion”. So this guy got a fleshy demon shoulder pad instead of a black shoulder pad and slightly different horns.

The second model this week is the power fist marine. Again, so many details! The amount of gold trim to paint on these models is mental! This guy was fun to paint, with a dynamic pose. I love power fists too. I love how these guys are going to look as a squad, with different armour and weapons and loadouts. They would make an amazing kill team. I just don’t know if they would be legal in the current Kill Team ruleset.

I might have made a bit of a mistake with the black rims. They are so pure black that they make the blue tinted armour of the marines look less black!

Here they are with their spiritual (and actual) successors, the Black Legion Marines from Blackstone Fortress. It goes to show you how elaborate Chaos Marines started to become. The Dark Vengeance Marines are highly elite, ancient chaos space marines, chosen by the gods to be their elite chamoipons. The Blackstone fortress boys are standard guys. I dare you to try to tell that by just looking at the models!

Anyway, lookit, that’s all from me this week. I’m off to start getting next week’s models ready. See you then for two more Marines and the Chosen Champion.

Best eggs!

  1. Great work as always. The flesh shoulder pad was a nice touch.
