Mixed metaphors! Welcome to the second week of the front 9 (or 6) of the second quarter of the second year of Hammer the Backlog, the weekly Warhammer (mostly) mini painting, productivity and accountability blog. I am Mick, I am the one who hammers the backlog, and this week I am going to take you through the scorecard that I use to keep the whole project on track, take a look at our progress on our quarterly targets, gawk at some pictures of some fantasy sportsmen and then have a little look at social media progress before we all go back into our dugouts.
SCORECARD
This week’s scorecard is as green as the freshly tended grass of a sports pitch. Look, I’m not that into sports, the metaphors are going to be a nit scatty, just go with me here. That’s the first two weeks of the new quarter fully in the green. After the stress of the last quarter, and the unusually high number of red cards as the deadline approached, it’s nice to be seeing so much green again.

As with other weeks with relatively simple, low detail monopose plastic models, I nearly got complacent with how easy and fun these guys are to paint, and ended up doing most of the painting on Wednesday and Thursday.
Only two more Blood Bowl players to paint now, the two throwers, and then it is into a hardcore 11 weeks of painting resin chaos dwarves! I can’t wait.
Things are going to be thrown a little out of sync next week with painting two blood bowl players and three chaos dwarfs. That will mean the following week I will have 8 chaos dwarf warriors painted with only two left. Then I will paint those last two warriors and three blunderbuss troops and so on. Am I the only one who would be bothered by this?
ROCKS
Let’s take a little look at this quarter’s rocks while we’re here. With 10 out of 12 already done, the Blood Bowl team is already past 80%.

For the Chaos Dwarves, I’ve broken it down as:
10 Warriors: 10 HtB points
10 Blunderbusses: 10 HtB points
5 Bull Centaurs: 15 HtB points
Lord: 5 HtB points
Sorcerer: 5 HtB points
Lamassu: 10 HtB points
That’s a total of 55 Hammer the Backlog points! I’ve just realised that I will need to do the two remaining Blood Bowl men at the same time as something else to have any chance of doing this on time! A slight failure in planning there! Glad I caught it this early in the quarter, to avoid any last minute panics!
THIS WEEK’S MODELS
This week’s models are five more Blood Bowl players. Bloodbowlers? Is that what they’re called? Monopose plastic once again filled me with joy this week. My two favourite models from this set so far are the two human catchers. They have a lovely open pose, just the right amount of detail and a nice variety of materials and fabrics to have a bit of fun with. Fantastic little fellas.

As much as I want to love them, the blitzers are the weakest human models in the box. The designers made an admirable effort to inject some dynamism into monopose plastics made with 1993 technology, but they just don’t quite work. They don’t really look like they are barging forward and the concessions made in detail to achieve the pose are a bit disappointing. Nevermind the hair extending onto the shoulder pad and taking up the space for the transfer!

All together these are a lovely little team. I can’t wait now for the two throwers and the orks next quarter. I am even slightly tempted to throw together a little “battle” report video when both teams are done.

SOCIAL MEDIA
Although at this stage it seems unlikely the Hammer the Backlog Instagram account will ever grow as fast as it did during the 5th edition boxed set project (unless I get a 4th edition boxed set, or maybe a 40k second edition boxed set) the popularity hangover from that set haas continued over to Youtube it seems. My 5th edition box set and let’s play video is way past 3k views now, and the subscribers keep coming in from that video.
The viewership statistics are hilarious. 100% male, 100% 35-55 years old!
Well that’s it from me for one week. See you next week for the last of the BB humans and the first of the evil dwarfs!
Good eggs!
